Me too! I've tried 5 or 6 different straps, but I still get shoulder pains. I have tried the Comfort Strapp (didn't work at all for me), the Slapstrap (sort of worked but too heavy and stiff), the Planet Waves Bass Strap (would work better if it was 2 inches wider), and the Levy's 4 1/2" strap (a little stiff and heavy but it's the most comfortable one for the Jazz I have). I've got an Italia 5" strap on order that might be cool.

I've been using an all leather (no suede) Levys 3.5" strap for a long time now and it feels great. I think it takes a while to really break in a strap. Once you have a nice leather strap for a year or two it gets super soft and comfy and kinda moulds perfectly to your shoulder

That's why I wish Planet Waves would make a 5" padded neoprene strap. No break-in period with it, it's nice and light, and it's comfortable right out of the box. Unfortunately, it's 3" width just doesn't get it done for me.

I use a Levy's wide leather strap mostly but I have one that I reserve for really long gigs that is more comfortable. It's made from some kind of space age spongy stuff that molds to your shoulder. Ritter carries them as an accessory.

Has anyone tried the TB leather strap? I like the look of those. It looks similar to my Levy.

They're made by "Moody". I tried a Moody strap (one with the leather backing), and I didn't like it at all. It's a super nice, highest quality strap, but the leather backing isn't completely smooth like on my Levy. It's more like a really nice glove leather that still has some grip to it. Not for me. I like my strap to be able to move around freely without pulling my shirt all around. Suede is even worse, I can't stand suede straps. It was too wide for my liking as well. 4" I think. Felt weird, covering almost my entire shoulder. I'm a pretty small guy though

I have both a 2-1/2" (suede backed) & 4" (leather backed) Moody strap and have been VERY happy with both. I plan on adding more for my others. I use the 4" for my 12+lb. '77 Jazz to spread the weight, and the 2-1/2" for my P-J Bass. I will get 2-1/2" straps for my other basses. (Next one this Thursday) They come broken in - and I Love Them!

I went to my local Walmart and bought a padded seatbelt shoulder cover. It fastens with a sewn in velcro strip. Just open it, insert your strap and close it back. I think a 2 or 2 1/2 inch strap will fit. Works like a charm, is very comfortable, and cost me all of $5.00 at the time.

I just received a 4" strap from Italia. Holds my alder Jazz up perfectly (5" would just get in the way). Fantastic leather, good craftsmaship and a stupid low price of $30 shipped off the 'bay. The only catch with Italia is they take about 6 weeks to ship (they don't make 'em till you purchase). They have good feedback on Ebay for their product quality; amusing comments about their shipping time. If not mistaken, Italia is "the product of the same broken home" as Moody. I believe the principal owners of each company used to be a couple. I also have a 4" Moody strap. Workmanship is a little nicer than the Italia, but it should be for over $100.

I use a Neoprene Fender one. Tried the comfort strapp and prefer this one, doesn't have as much give, it's a little stiffer than the comfort strapp but just as effective. Really takes the weight off my Stingray

Another vote for Moody; it's the highest quality strap I've found. I use the 2 1/2" wide version, which I find perfect. Mine is leather on the inside, as opposed to suede, and I have no problem with it clinging to my shirt.

These are the straps I use: http://www.shorelinemusic.com/accessories/straps.shtml

In particular the Softie which is very comfortable when playing either my Jazz or my Precision. They are fairly inexpensive as well.

I put these on all my basses, inlcuding jazz bass:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...rap?sku=364661

I love them. Great balance, cheap and very strong and adaptable. A wider leather version would probably be more comfy, but I've never looked back since I started using them about 5 years ago.

Have put them on jazz basses, p-basses, Lakland 55-01 and Musicman SR5.

I like the Fender Neoprene but I read some reviews that its too short, however I found the long one, and it can be up to '53...Is this long enough, I'm 6'1 and like the bass not too high but not too low

+1 Moody
It's like sex for the shoulder.
Seriously, sometimes I rub the suede back on my face, it's just that nice.

I've got a wide Moody strap and it feels really comfortable - plus, the electric blue suede underside is great as well!!
