Looking at a new guitar . . . (Epi Black Beauty)

Have a modded to hell and back epiphone SG and a cheap telecaster copy. Thinking of adding something a bit different to the stable.

Been really really really interested in the Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty.

They just look and sound stunning.

Anyone here have one? Opinions on them?

My guitar player uses one. He isnit your average guitard either. He really respects the bassist. Funny thing is that in his "rock room" he has a picture of a guy playing a bass. Really cool.

Anyway, back to the guitar. It sounds amazing. He did change the middle pickup, but I don't know what it is. It really screams, great for pimch harmonics. He gets an awesome blues/clean sound out of it too.

If I had to get an Epiphone I would definetly get it. It looks really cool too.

Hi.

Had one for a while. Bought it as a scrath and dent, and sold it to our guitar player.

With the Japanese Tokais, I have to say that these upper end Epis are IMHO better overall deal than Gibsons in general. And I have had several of those as well. Ranging from -73 LP Custom to -91 Firebird.

I did play the Black Beauty for a while before handing it over to the guitarist, and I have to say I was really impressed. Both the feel and the sound were flawless. To me at least .

I'd say go for it If the three pickup arrangement doesn't bother You. Some do say that it's harder to play as most of the guitarists seem to like to pick or pluck between the pickups, I never noticed.

Regards.

Cheers guys

The extra pickup is actually quite a bonus in my books, I tend to play directly over the pickups so I don't see how it could cause a problem in playing. And I have to agree about the high end Epiphones being a better deal than Gibsons. The higher end Epi's seem far more consistant from guitar to guitar than the Gibsons, and they easily trump the lower end Gibsons.

A friend of mine has a high end Epi les paul with Gibson pickups (burstbuckers i think?) and it sounds amazing, better than any Gibsons i've heard

Nah, Bareknuckle pickups, while nice (friend of mine has a nailbomb in his LP), are way too expensive

www.catswhiskerpickups.co.uk is where it is at. Can get a pickup made to your exact specifications. Allan is a pleasure to deal with, and his pickups are damned well priced

I still don't know what pickup my guitar puts in there, but only one he changed was the middle pickup. It looks identical as the other pickup, but it's silver instead of gold. Someone tell me what this is?

i have one and it sounds awsome, but its crafted poorly which means possible trips to a guitar tech to be repaired. i've had to have the input replaced a few times sense the default input was really weak. the pickup switch died on me once and now after it was resoldered now its going out again.

the bridge pickup sometimes doesnt come on at all.

Epis in general sound decent but being made in china there is room for error. best thing to do is if you are definately set on buying it, get it setup right away to do away with any defects or issues it might have right off the bat.
