Looking for a short comfortable strap (~38" long)
Any suggestions? :)
Right now I have my eyes on the Neotech Super Bass Strap, the Comfort Strapp (short or long model, I'm not really sure) and the Fender Neoprene one.
I would consider Sadowsky's Neostrap too, but paying $40.50 for shipping (I live in Greece) when the strap itself costs $40 doesn't seem reasonable to me.
38" is the adjusted length of my old, cheap Planet Waves strap.
Maybe try making your own? Then you can choose your length range, width, color and grippy-ness of the back side.
I go to the local leather store and buy a belt blank. Then I either cut the blank to the right length (not adjustable), or cut it into two sections and use a belt buckle for adjustment. Then I dye it, or in some cases tool patterns into it and then dye/seal. They can also be left raw, which will let them really show their age (sweat stains, spilled beer, scratches, etc.)
Total cost is about $30 unless you already have leather dye/sealer and a belt buckle. Then it's about $20 for just the leather (in my area). More expensive than a crappy cloth one, but it'll last forever and only get more comfortable with age.
Nice idea, although I'm concerned about finding a belt blank wide enough, in order to distribute my bass's weight better.
And, to be honest, I'm not that much of a craftsperson either. :hmm:
I found, however, a company that produces leather guitar straps near my place. They do custom work too!
I'll drop by with my bass and see what they offer.
