My wedding dinner is coming in 1 year time. And I am thinking about singing and playing acoustic guitar (gave up on the idea of singing with a solo bass) while marching into the hall. Have problems choosing a song, here are some facts, which I hope to help you help me: - We attended one of my buddy's dinner and he did Richard Marx's Now and Forever, I found that song to be touching and suitable. Immediately thought about another classic "Everything I do" by Bryan Adams. Tough to sing though.
- I like Led Zep and RHCP, looked at Thank You by Led Zep and Hard to Concentrate by RHCP, which have great lyrics, but the melodies don't really suit acoustic accompanied singing.
- My guitarist suggested a lot of Beatles for me but I feel that they are too "oldies".
- I am also wondering if I should compose an original, but my lyrics writing skill is bad.
- I plan to walk, sing and play at the same time, so I prefer to do strumming instead of fingerpicking if possible
- My fiance likes Black Eye Peas and Linkin Park. Which don't have any suitable songs the last time I checked.
- When I first suggested this idea to her, she suggested that I sing Wedding Day by BeeGees. The song sounded too gay for me.
Thanks in advance! |

"Because", by the Dave Clark 5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuYFPyeWuig

I think it will touch your fiancee more than a cover, even if it is very simple song.
You have one year to do it. Good luck

I would've loved to have played acoustic guitar & sung "Soon" -- the coda from "The Gates Of Delirium" by Yes -- at my wedding, but my voice is about 6 octaves lower than Jon Anderson's so it really doesn't lend itself to that material. (I wound up arranging "Soon" for vibraphone & soprano sax and having that performed as our wedding processional; then the sax & vibes performed an original composition I wrote specifically for the event as the recessional. But I digress...)
But if you can cut the lonesome, plaintive counter-tenor, it'll have everyone in tears:
"Soon, oh soon the light
pass within and soothe this endless night
And wait here for you
Our reason to be here
Soon oh soon the time
All we move to gain will reach and calm
Our heart is open
Our reason to be here" |

It's country, but I bet would sound more like an unplugged rock\pop ballad if you play it just on acoustic with the right voice. And it's sappy, but hey it's your wedding! |

Danny's Song, by Loggins and Messina
Shower the People by James Taylor
I had a friend of mine do them at my wedding, and they worked out great.
Not exactly Linkin Park....
...or you could do what my sister-in-law did...play It's the End of the World as We Know It by R.E.M....that seemed to work too. : )
