So the city I live in throws a "lotus festival" and this year there were some amazing acts.

Anyway, I am walking around the Marching 4th tent and my phone rings. Funny thing is I never carry my phone but I was waiting for a call.
Its a co-worker who DJ's at a local station. She says there will be a Get together for all the visiting artists and they need someone to play! They want a jazz trio...we are not one...but I said yes anyway
Got to play with between 3-10 horns, an amazing guitarist, and random performers. The whole apartment(yes this was in a large apartment with an open roof) was packed with moving bodies.
So after 4.5 hours of playing bass I am still awake. I need to get up for work in 42 min. I guess I better get to it.
Last thing. I asked specifically "Do I need to bring PA?" he said no that it would be so quite that we would not need a mic. Lying bastard I had my 2402 hitting red 1/4 of the time and our singer (My wife) would not sing... nor could anyone else. I am just going to bring everything next time. Actually he said not to bring a bass amp/cab either but I knew it would be needed.
I was allowed the opportunity to back random acts for an entire night as the bass was out of my hands for only the first 30 min. My drummer stayed on the kit almost all night too.
What a wonderful time, I will always remember this.
Also I found I need to work on my ear more. I wish I could have matched the guitar players licks perfect after hearing the turnaround once, but I needed help with them.
BTW the guitarist was amazing. chomping chords and when it was time to solo he jumped up on the table and did it well, and back to chomp and rhythm.
They were all very kind.
Now I am rambling, and in my tired stooper I am sure I have been all over the place.
Good morning TB, I now go to sleep.
