I tried guitar and decided it was to hard, but I liked the parts where I only did one string at once, so I decied to play bass "because it was easier" I have since changed my opinion on it being easier, but I still love bass

But it was mainly me picking out the bass lines to many songs and generally liking the lower end, although I don't like to groove. |

I knew the power came from the bass so I bought subs and installed them into my car and turned up the bass and mids. Bass is what makes you literally feel the music.
Not to mention that guitar players were a dime a dozen and I wanted to be different. |

| | | | I wanted to play in my friends band and he said "we already have too many guitars, why don't you play bass?" So I practiced and ultimately I fell in love with bass |

But for me it is easier than guitar because I cannot play barre chords and certain other chords which use all the fingers on my left hand for some odd reason. With bass there is verly little chording and I can keep a groove much better than I can keep a rthymic strum pattern. Not only that the lower sound of bass is much more pleasing to my ears than a screechy electric guitar.

He did.
Dissatisfied with what he shows me, I argue thats not how it goes theres this whole part you're not showing me during that intro. He says "Oh you mean the bit that goes (he sings the part)" and I'm going "Yes, that bit!!!"
He laughs, hands me a bass and says "Well then, you'll be wanting one of these then". Then he confiscates my pick!!!
I haven't looked back since.

I started playing b/c my friends were starting a band and we already had two guitarist, no bassist. I played off and on for a few years and picked it back up after seeing Vic's Improv/Amazing Grace solo on a DirectTV Freeview; Bela Fleck & The Flecktones: Live at the Quick. That, plus my discovery of TB got me back into it like never before.

Picked the guitar back up when my church started a praise and worship band. Then, our bass graduated from college and moved away. We had plenty of guitars that were more talented than I. I picked up the bass and fell in love, took some lessons, and have barely touched a guitar since (not even my buddy's Sadowsky Tele!) I got a band together with folks I knew from my work and church and I am a much better (and happier ) on bass than I ever was on guitar.

| My Dad plays guitar and has tiny fingers. I can reach further with three fingers than he can with five. Right before my birthday about 12 years ago he said he'd break my hands unless I played and instrument(he was frustrated with trying to learn a Stevie Ray Vaughn riff). I picked bass because everyone and their mom had a guitar and I'm too much of a spazz to play drums. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
