Lowend Dub bag

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey hey,

My lowend double gig bag came in last week, rich dark brown with that sexy saddle bag (Thanks brian!) but I just kinda noticed that it's a little over stuffed and i have to sort of squeeze the second bass in. My question is two-fold:

a) Will this damage my bridge in any way? Or should I assume that the padding will give just enough?

b) Assuming one bass is a backup or 2 basses not being equal, which do you guys put where? Should my backup be riding close to me or away from me. My thinking was that because i lean on subway cars, I have the back up on the outside, but considering part A, what would you do?

complex? Yes. Unnecessary? Of course.

thanks folks,
Chris

It's a great bag, I wouldn't worry any which way. If you're concerned with potential damage from subway transit or whatever, even the best bag cannot prevent eberything, but pack it smart and you'll be just fine. I've had some experience with that bag and have never had a problem with a bridge or damage, that thing is awesome. I wish I owned one.

Hmmm. Well since you live in NYC, I would recommend Put your main bass in so that it's the one against your body, and your backup bass on the 'outer' side so that it will protect the main bass in the inevitable eventuality of gunshot damage.

That way your best bass is protected and so are you if you are attacked from behind by a random thug. And if you are attacked from the front only the backup will be damaged when you collapse backward onto your gigbag. So that way, your surviving family members can sell your good bass to pay for the funeral.

What? Oh I suppose you're going to try to claim somehow that New York isn't the festering cesspit of crime that movies, books, and the evening news make it out to be.

Okay. Smart@$$ moments aside: Keep your better/main bass closer to your body so that things like leaning against surfaces will have less effect. Both basses should be fine regardless, but any sudden lurch can make someone fall against you and kind of 'smush' the bass a bit. I wouldn't think you could absorb much in the way of real 'damage' that way. But I could sure picture needing to re-do your set up afterward.

You don't need to worry about any damage to the bridge.

I have a DUB bag, and they protect my basses better than anything short of a flight case.

On cheaper bags, I put the "better" bass closer to me, or being equal, I put the bigger of the two closest to me for the sake of weight distribution. I put the "lesser" bass farther away because that usually touches the ground first when I set it down.

In a good bag, it shouldn't matter... and if your bridge gets damaged in that setup, your bag probably cost more than your basses. Don't worry about it if you've got a decent rig.
