Hoping this becomes a long thread.
Post the lyrics that you can relive time and again just because they are the best you've heard. Post the sentences that got to you down deep, post entire lyrics if they really got it right, or stick to the essence, it may be a sentence, or maybe a row of words, whatever touched you. Post only those that have inspired you, those that have opened your deeper self which you may never have encountered otherwise.
'Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers.'
'My eyes have seen you, let them photograph your soul, memorize your alleys on an endless roll.'
'I feel them draw my name. So easy to know and forget with this kiss. I'm not afraid to go, but it goes so slow!'
'There's something about this wild, wild country... Takes a strong strong, breaks a strong strong mind.'
Let the poetry out bro's... we're musicians, we know.
Greetz

"Drawn like moths we drift into the city
The timeless old attraction
Cruising for the action
Lit up like a firefly
Just to feel the living night
Some will sell their dreams for small desires
Or lose the race to rats
Get caught in ticking traps
And start to dream of somewhere
To relax their restless flight
Somewhere out of a memory of lighted streets on quiet nights..."

the ground will drop out from beneath your feet
One of these days
your heart will stop and play its final beat

the clocks will stop and time won't mean a thing
One of these days
their bombs will drop and silence everything

I had a lot of trouble in school and in general, and I used to pull up Rush on my mp3 player and listen to it in class and walking in to the building. It helped a lot; it helped me to keep my head up and not get down-trodden. Musically, it inspired me to change my path, turn to music, and stay out of trouble. Lyrically, it brought back some of my faith and confidence in my own self-worth. Rush is a very powerful, encouraging band for those who don't fit in well and struggle with themselves and the world around them. Rush's material can be very uplifting.
This one stands out to me also. They played in when I saw them in Toledo, and it seemed to be a very touching moment for the audience as a whole.

To the depths of the ocean where all hopes sank, searching for you. I was moving through the silence without motion, waiting for you. In a room with a window in the corner I found truth.
Joy Division-Shadowplay
A change of speed, a change of style, a change of scene with no regrets. A chance to watch, admire the distance, still occupied, though you forget. Different colours, different shades over which mistakes were made. I took the blame. Directionless, so plain to see, a loaded gun won't set you free. Or so they say.
Joy Division-New Dawn Fades
Tell me, come on tell me what you can. Even as you wait for death you're wiser than I am. Tell me, what does it mean to exist? I am not a scientist, I must believe in more than this. I cannot accept that everything that's real is only what our eyes can see and our hands can feel.
This Is Not The End-The Bravery
She cuts my skin and bruise my lips, she's everything to me. She tears my clothes and burns my eyes, she's all I wanna see. She brings the cold and scars my soul, she's heaven sent to me.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club-Love Burns
Words, like violence, break the silence, come crashing in, into my little world. Painful to me, tear right through me. Can't you understand, oh my little girl?

| | | | I often think about this topic. I have been playing 40 years and don't know the lyrics to any song I ever played. Vocals were always a constant drone in the foreground and not part of my bass world which is where my total concentration lays. |
