MAC OS Music Software Question

Sign in to disble this ad
Not sure if this is the correct forum, but..anyone know of a software package (Mac OS) which will take a MIDI file and convert it to sheet music? I know that’s one feature of some programs like Logic Pro, which is a super program but comes at a hefty cost.

I’d also be interested in a package to convert MP3 files to MIDI (or MP3 to WAV first, then to MIDI).

I’ve done Google searches and have found some software I’d be interested in for the above, but they all seem to be in PC format only.

You're not going to find anything that'll do what you want with any degree of flexibilty (in terms of manipulating the appearance & layout of the sheet music after it's been "converted") that doesn't come with a hefty cost. The two main competitors in this arena are Finale and Sibelius. MOTU's Digital Performer (a DAW program like Logic Pro) can do this also. All of these packages are in the $500 ballpark.

audio-to-MIDI file conversion is way more difficult technically than it might seem at first glance; I've never seen a program that does this with any kind of reliability.

Take a look at Finale's PrintMusic. It might do it and it's only about $100.

The only audio to MIDI program I have ever seen works only on single notes, and not very well. If you want to convert a complex piece of music to MIDI, you're going to have to play it yourself.

your website sucks.

Instead of bashing Apple maybe you should break out the 3rd grade level spelling and grammar books..
