mac question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

I was wondering about this,

Why are mac's... umm.. default specs ? (if you know what I mean) are so low ?

I know that macs are more expensive them PCs but, is it because mac doesn't need that much to run and multi task easily without freezing ? Like for example the default spec for a 24inch iMac is 2.16 ghz duo 2 core and a 1 gig of ram... for 2000$.... doesn't this seem a bit off ? Or is it because it can run like a PC with higher specs ?

Thanks,

Prices for Macs with the same performance as a comparable PC have always been higher. This is probably part of the reason they have such low market share.

In other words,

a 2.16 Ghz duo 2 core on a mac is as good as
a 2.16 Ghz duo 2 core on a PC

and won't run mac os x's better then it runs windows..

It is only very recently that CPU specs on Macs and PC's have been comparable.

I don't know if OSX runs any better than Windows on the same CPU. It probably does but the CPU intensive programs like graphics processing programs probably run equally well since most of the CPU time is used for calculations and not for OS-related processing. Same for audio processing applications.
