what is this macromedia thing that pops up all the time on here? Is this something I need? Its a pain popping up all the time. If I down load will it go away? What does it do?

Its probably asking you to download or update the Macromedia Flash plug in for your browser. It's a piece of software that allows you to view 'flash' based web design and animation. Its not a danger, but definitely your call. I have it on my home systems but not on my work computer.
