Making Electronic Music from Samples (Creative Commons)

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I'm interested in producing some electronic music and hip-hop tracks in hopes of recording a hip-hop album this semester. I'm wondering if anyone knows the best places to find samples of all kinds of instruments, mostly drum beats and such.

I have Fruity Loops, but if I could do most of my work with just a recording program, I'd be ecstatic. I'll probably add some of my own bass and guitar tracks. I was looking through the Creative Commons website, and got lost trying to find what I wanted.

Anyone do this kind of thing? Any help in pointing me in the right direction?

Ableton's "Live" is a very powerful and popular program for sample playback, looping, and multitracking. As far as where to get samples, there are scads of sample CDs and libraries out there; just search on Ebay for example for "samples" or "sound libraries". If you are trying to get sounds for free, try Limewire and search on "wav".

Not really sure if its what you're looking for but both are free:

http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/index.php this one has some quite unusual samples

The bottom one is better IMO.

E-bay is a good place to look, some cheap sample cd's to be had there.
