i know its not a bass, but my life is split between bass and recording.

oh, and does anyone have a good setup for recording drums with 2 shure sm58"s and an AKG perception 100??

try the 58 in the kick and the condenser behind the drummer on a long high stand as an overhead pointing it at the snare.
I've used this technique for live as well as recording and it works pretty good.

Certainly one of the least beautiful mixers I've ever seen. Sorry man, but I just do not share the love for that mixer.
