Went out and jammed for the first time in a LONG time last night - played some 60s era Rock\Blues\R&B\Surf\Jam music with some guys who were playing out when that stuff was new. I've gotten really busy (with my third child, lots of travel with work, etc.) and have only played with a band one other time over the past year - the rest has been playing stuff along with CDs in my bedroom...

So, a few comments - first, there's nothing like playing out live. Goes without saying, but I guess I forgot that feeling for a while. Second, bass players are in high demand. This was a regular jam I sat in on and they seemed surprised a bass player actually showed up (and one guy relieved they could play guitar instead of HAVING to play bass ) Finally, my rig absolutely ROCKED. This is the first time I have played out this particular configuration (MIA Jazz with SD Antiquity IIs, Thunderfunk, Berg HT112\EX112) and the tone was really just plain sick. I'd been contemplating changing cabs as my rig sounded a bit thin\anemic\lacked bottom when playing in the bedroom over the last year. But with a band? Ridiculous sound. Loud, thick, warm, punchy and plenty deep to me. Got lots of compliments and lots of questions about that little rig. A metal band played a set later in the evening and couldn't believe what I was able to get out of that rig. Needless to say, I'm totally content now with that thing (now all I need is my Sadowsky ).

Anyways, I'm excited - got an audition tonight and have been looking at putting a band together potentially as well. All stuff I haven't done for a while. Feels good and thought I'd share it with my Talkbass bretheren.

Peace Out

It's always fun to play with other people. I've noticed my amp sounds better with a guitar player playing too. Haven't tried it in a band setting. Good luck with the audition.
