Angry Manhattan Guitar Center Bass Room has been shrunk...

Yes, people you read correctly.

The whole right section of the room that housed the Ibanez wall, Pedulla/Modulus wall, and Schecter/Spector wall.... gone. I went there today to test out the Markbass stuff and I see a fleet of basses outside (got three new nifty looking Ibanez SRX basses, very sexy...). I think nothing of it and continue on in the room. I then quickly look to my left and realize there are two guys putting up a wall.

I couldn't beleive it.

I talked to Ron (main sales guy for basses, also does guitars, probably the coolest guy there...) and he said they shrank it because they are extending hat little guitar room that is inbetween the bass and drum room, that has the glass door. Guess whats going in there...

BOUTIQUE/HIGH END GUITARS AND AMPS THAT NO ONE IS EVER GOING TO BUY!!!

Knowing GC, they make most of their money off of accesories sales. Not the instruments themselves. They are making more room for s** that's gonna sit there for years and never get played. This is just my view, but most musicians who are shopping for high end gear, don't usaully shop at GC or even think about it sometimes. It makes me sick.

Meanwhile, everything in the bass room is going to be haywire according to Ron for atleast 3 months. He wants to put the good stuff back in there. Ofcourse that's not gonna happen.

He told me that they're gonna wanna put the Gallien Krueger and Behringer stuff inside the room, which seldom gets played and put the really good stuff outside of the room and most likely behind a bunch of squires, corts, olp's and low end Ibanez'. SO you don't notice it, minimizing the chances of you "breaking" it...

Us bassist's just never see the end of it, do we? This only going to hurt them, I think. The room really wasn't big to begin with and it gets packed on Fridays... it's gonna be nice and cozy now.

end rant/

I just had to get this out to you guys. Looks like I'm gonna have to schedule and guess what time it's not going to be super packed in there when I visit there now...

How is it possible? That room is TINY. I am a native NYCer, and even I thought is was small Doesn't matter, I never go there anyways since the only lefties they have are MIM J-Bass and a cheapo Ibanez.

I got an Analyst review of Guitar Center recently, I even emailed the stock analyst, who is a musician. GC has issues. Their stock price just took a big dive. The internet is an issue, as it hurts the brick and mortar business, but the margin on all the cheap **** out of the stores is not enough to sustain. Thus the need to try and get into the higher end. That will be tough in NYC, as one has Rudy's and sources themselves like sadowsky in Brooklyn.
