Been to Manny's everytime I've ever gone to New York. Loved the place.

I bought a 200 watt all tube Marshall Major with two 4x12 cabinets from Manny's in 1968. After moving to the City in 1978, I have been there many times in the last 30 years for midi modules, keyboards, mixers, cables, etc.
The photo's always blow me away.

Now? It's a pretty sad vestige of it's former self. Sorry to see it go, but it's a few years past its expiration date.
But take heart - they may not be concentrated on one block anymore, but there are still some guitar shops with interesting gear downtown.
And in much cooler neighborhoods.
I really feel for the Manny's employees, though. I hope the vast Sam Ash empire can take care of them. |

Haven't been on 48th street in 20 years.
How many of the other historic music stores are still there? |

| | | | This really sucks! I go there whenever I am in town and I have always been treated very well. The service from the guys and gals have always been first class. |

I thought the same thing. I bought my MM SR5 there in 1992 and was absolutely blown away by the place. I tried every bass there before making my decision and it was a blast.
When I went back a couple of years ago I was shocked at how "GC" it was. Nothing exciting and the bass section, such as it was, was relegated to the upstairs.
Sad. I think Rudy's probably has the nicest stuff now but their prices and service are way out of proportion.

Story;
So cool, I got recognized at Manny's back in 71. my band had won this huge Band In competition at my High School back in Jersey.It really was a big deal. 1000.00 prize.
Anyway a few days after we won I was at Manny's and some guy came up to me and asked if I was the kid that one the Band In.
Check it out, I acted like I to cool to talk to him. Awwwsome!!!!!!!
