Looks like the marketing boys at SAM ASH decided it was smarter to keep the name alive! Just went there today and it looks good with a really nice bass section. I reckon the biggest in NY.

the only reason theyre still in buisiness is because tourists like to say "this guitar came from the famous store in NYC." think guitar center, with higher prices on everything.. |

But go right up the street to Rudy's. Hands down the most top flight gear in the bass section in NYC. |

Jaco's Hartke 8x10" is going to be in there along with basses and other goodies from other hartke artists.
Larry's been talking about it for a little while over at his Facebook page.
should be pretty cool.

God Bless, Ray | No. Sadowsky used to be in Times Square, which is a few blocks south. I swung through Music Row three weeks ago and the windows to Manny's were papered over, so I couldn't see inside, but it didn't look like there was much activity inside. Where'd you come by this info?

AH! OK, I remember seeing Roger talk about guys coming over from Rudy's to his shop.
Seems a shame corperation has changed the feel of a music store. IMO The name means nothing without the people in it
Thanks,
God Bless, Ray

I tried an MTD ZX 5 string (killer) and a used Spector Euro NS-2, which was in dire need of some TLC. Was there for no more than 20 minutes, then left!
Went to Rudy's after and tried a used Fodera Monarch 5 string (oh, how I wish I had the funds!!), a slamming Sukop 4 string, that US-made MTD J-Bass (I love that one) and a few Pensa and F Bass 5's. EVERY instrument was set up like a dream!! I ended up shooting the sh*t with Jaxson, the resident bass man, for over an hour. He was pulling his favorite instruments for me to try. Wish I could spend all day there....
So yes, the Manny's/Sam Ash bass room is MUCH bigger, but you can't beat the quality, selection, and vibe at Rudy's! |

Last time i was there (last week) they were locked up having officially closed, with a Sam Ash employee saying they were moving their guitar/bass stuff into that space and taking over what ever was in stock (since they already owned manny's for a while). And yea Rudy's bass section is literally a GAS chamber. Cool people there too.

I passed there a few weeks ago and also saw the paper covering the windows....
I heard ther wrecking ball was coming and the whole section of stores was going to make room for a new building... |

We should make a mini GTG or something and just go through the store if it's actually open.

Also, Rudy's was locked up but I could see gear still up in the window... maybe renovating (there were scaffolds put up in front of the building, but no signs).
