Martin Levac, keeping Phil's legacy alive.

Well with Phil Collins having retired from making music, it apparently was up to a Canadian artist to keep the legacy alive.

Martin Levac was the "Phil" of Canadian Genesis tribute band "the Musical Box" a band that impressed the real Genesis members so much that Rutherford granted them Carte Blanche into the band's depot, allowing them to take notes on the gear that was used to really get it right. Steve Hackett and Phil Collins both appeared on stage with "The Musical Box" reliving long lost days no doubt. And Peter Gabriel called singer Denis Gagné (The "Peter" of The Musical box) a "Genius"

But it was Levac who was the star here: NAILING Phil every single night, not only in drumming but also in singing. So it was assumed that when The Musical Box announced that they were going to do a tour based on "A trick of the tail" that Levac would truly do Phil justice. But prior to the tour it also came out that Levac had left the Musical Box, leaving Gagné to do the "Phil" role. The result is funny enough, a Genesis Phil-era show with a singer who sings like Gabriel, giving an insight into how Genesis would have sounded if Gabriel hadn't left the band.

But for Martin Levac, his Phil Collins acts got more and more serious, as he was offered (and accepted) to take Phil's place in the "Genesis Rewired" music show by Genesis Guitarist Daryl Stuermer.

And from there on Levac is touring with his "Dance into the light tour" where he performs Phil Collins the world over and seeing how successful those shows are, it also underlines how much People still enjoy Phil's music.

So how close is Martin Levac to Phil Collins voice-wise? This performance of "Against all odds" is a good showcase just how "Phil" Levac can be, it is mostly in the high notes that you hear that it isn't Phil himself singing. Levac doesn't have that rasp that Phil has in the higher register but it's still quite convincing.
