Any of you who have paid attention to my posts know I'm a big Folk Music fan. Well one of the biggest names in Folk history was silenced today. Mary Travers, one third of Peter, Paul, and Mary, died today of leukemia.
I only saw them perform as a trio once. I was at the kerrville Folk Festival a few years back and they had a special Peter, Paul, and Mary night, featuring several acts that were big fans of P,P,& M themselves and ending up with a rare performance from the trio as the headliners. The audience was HUGE. I'd never seen so many people crowded onto the ranch. It was probably close to twice the normal audience. All for a chance to see an act that was huge in their childhood, or perhaps their parents childhoods. Or maybe even their grandparents. Who knows.
But they won't get to see them again.
Rest in peace Ms Travers.

One of my sons is 30, and I got him into them when he was just a kid. He has a ton of their albums on vinyl. You could tell that they really enjoyed singing together, and they really had that magic. RIP indeed, Mary...

We were at a local diner where we went to for breakfast every Sunday. I played that song every time we went there.
RIP Mary

RIP Mary,
My late mom used to play their live album a lot when I was but a lad of 5 or so.

Her legacy in the pantheon of greats is assured. She will be missed. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
