Driving in to work today I put a CD in the radio, something that I do every day. I put in Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys. I was unable to leave the car until the last song was played. Of course this made me late for work. I couldnt help from thinking that this album is a work of art. Machine Gun should be played often, and at high volume. What is that one album for you TB that you cant turn off until the last song is played. What is that perfect album? (for all you young cats, I know they are called CD's. They will always be albums to me) |

Conceptual albums are not nearly as common today as they used to be. |

Anyway, just picked up the just issued Legacy version of Bitches Brew...includes a nice DVD performance of Miles, Shorter, Dejohnette, Corea & Holland in Copenhagen 1969. http://www.amazon.com/Bitches-Brew-L...5007399&sr=8-1

[u]Animals[u] by Pink Floyd
and
Flight of the Conchords by Flight of the Conchords
I couldn't choose. |

Thats the difference, and Album is a single piece of work that makes sense together (and sometimes only makes sense together), whereas a CD is just a medium for a collection of music, an LP or EP, depending on length. As for my picks, there's certain albums I can really ONLY listen to in album form, front to back, all at once, the way it was intended. Although there may be one or two songs that can be picked out on their own, they just make me want to listen to the whole thing, especially when it's the first track... But I digress. Most of Pink Floyd's catalogue falls in to this category, although the standouts are The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon. Tool's 10,000 Days fits as well, along with Jethro Tull's Aqualung. They just work better in context.
