masters degree in bass performance?

Sign in to disble this ad
Im considering getting a masters degree in electric bass performance. Im not sure if I should do it or if I should just look for a good performance school. Either way Im looking for something more focused on jazz and other contemporary styles and not so much on classical music. I would prefer for it to be in the USA (mainly in California) but im also looking for options in other countries. Im also looking for something that isnt super expensive. Any suggestions?

My good friend did that in guitar, then when he couldn't make a living playing, picked up his teaching certificate and is now a happy high school band director.

Why limit yourself to just bass? With the economy the way it is now - and I really do not look for it to get back like it used to be - knowing what fall down to job you qualify for makes a lot of since. I had to rely upon a fall down to job twice in the 47 years of my career. Knowing how to sell big ticket items bailed me out both times.

A teaching certificate is a good thing to have in your back pocket and now days a masters does not hurt. Lot of people looking, you need something to get past the first interview.

Go for it, but, broaden your horizon.
