I have just heard that The Boss Maynard Ferguson has passed away....I am still trying to confirm any fellow musicians know anything about this.... Sorry for the post on a Bass forum but we are all musicians...and he is a big name.

OH, MAN !!!

I had the radio turned off most of the day, so this is the first I'm hearing of this!

It definitely stinks!

RIP, Maynard.

Mike

Sad news. He was a big influence back in my horn playing days. His work with Stan Kenton in the 50's was groundbreaking.

Yea..... he had a real influence on me when I was playing trumpet. He was an amazing man. I was lucky enough to spend an afternoon with him once in '72.
He'll be missed.

Rest in Peace, Maynard...you will never be forgotten.

To think, it was only a few months ago that I saw him live. Fourth row. I was absolutely floored. He was truly amazing.

I had the pleasure of playing with Maynard Ferguson once in the mid 80's, and it remains one of the most memorable times of my life.

He was not only an exceptional player and composer, but he devoted his career to music education, he was always out to help kids get more into music in a real sense.

The dude left a legacy. I can only hope that I can touch so many people and leave a mark like that once I'm gone.

RIP, to a true musician and mentor to so, so many.

RIP Maynard...a huge influence on me in my early years. I grew up listening and playing his big band arrangements, and had the chance to meet him in 88. He will be greatly missed.

A friend of mine (one Jillian Stansell, granddaughter of Fritz Stansell, founder of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp) got an invitation to audition for his band when she graduated high school. She could've made it, but wanted to focus on cello rather than trumpet.

I saw Big Bop Nuveau a few years ago, and it was great. He did a really cool piece with some Buddhist instruments.
