I think I've read as much in an interview.. It was post Beatles, early Wings live shows, something along the lines of "what does the audience want to see? That old violin bass that they remember me with" (terribly paraphrased, but something like that..)

Just looked up the scale of a tenor, and I'll agree with that - a electric-slide-cigar-box-resonator-tenor-guitar..

I loved it. Going in with expectations that it will sound like Beatles or sound like Nirvana may be problematic. I personaly thought it was great. Paul sounded strong and I loved the new song with the Nirvana crew.... that cigar box resonator sound was nice...Its funny because I had recently looked at one of those.

I was thinking of my buddy Mjac hoping he was enjoying it too!

As for why he does play the Ric onstage.. ONe reason, as mentioned, he's associated with the Hofner, but he says it's because his sounds so good. That wood has matured and gives a great sound. Also, Paul is 70 and anyone who has played a Ric knows they aren't light. I'd rather have a 5lb bass around my neck too.

But Paul can rock.
