I love MMW! Chris Wood has monster groove on both URB and electric. I've got everything they released as a band plus the 2 John Scofield discs they help out on.

www.mmw.net is the Official Site... they have some media there. "End of the World Party" is the newest and my fav. "Uninvisible" is another one I listen to often.

They have been around a long while and have changed a lot as a band. They started out very old school jazz type stuff. A lot of free form stuff, but much more traditional. At some point, they decided to make their jazz dancable, for lack of a better term. To me, End of the World Party is the perfect melding of all their past, present and future all rolled into one. All previous albums deserve a good listen though. I dont think I would have appreciated End of the World as much, had I not heard the other stuff first.

If you want to check out anything on mp3, I have most of their albums, just PM me.

Some of their material is a little too "free-form" for my liking. Most of "Combustification" falls into that category. But, the stuff that leans toward groove, including the collaborations with Scofield, are very cool.

I recommend you start with "Hottentot" (a song on the Scofield "A Go-Go" CD) and go from there.

MMW rules. Love thier stuff. I personally feel like the easiest stuff to start with is on Uninvisible. Lots of simple groove orented jams that get kind of spacey. Lots of songs bassed (haha, get it! ) around a simple bass groove, like Smoke.

I don't reccomend starting with End Of The World Party. Thats all hardcore dance haze, trip hop, abeiance (I know I misspelled that) kind of stuff. Its still a great album, but I feel like you have to get into MMW a good bit before being able to sit, listen, (or stand and dance), and take in that album.

MMW

I'm a fan. Love "End of the World Party" for speed up/slow down moods.

I will agree with Uninvisable and Shack-Man probably being the easiest introduction albums.

Ugh. I've heard a lot about them, but never heard them. Now that I have, I have zero interest in hearing them again.

Dats's not a keyboard! That, my friend, is a Hammond B3 Organ. Organs are instruments. Keyboards are appliances. Always remeber this. :>

MMW are each fabulous musicians. Great feels. Great soloists. GREAT groovers.

+1

BTW, anyone out there got the 'Tonic' Acoustic disc? If you do, do you dig it?

EDIT: Also, just out of curiosity. Was anyone at the 4/13/05 show in Murhpreeburro, TN, on MTSU's campus? Sick show that was.

MMW are great. I've seen them everywhere from a tiny club where they didn't start playing until almost 1 a.m., to Atlanta Symphony Hall. They never fail to groove like crazy. Chris Wood is excellent.

I prefer their first(?) album...still-
Notes From The Underground. More acoustic & more 'out' than the organ-groove stuff(which I had first) & which I always thought was missing a horn or two.

I have tonic. It is a "difficult" listen. it is from their acoustic tour - piano, db, drums. Some intense stuff, none of the groove stuff.

I'd say Shack man is my fave mmw
