My brother, my best friend and a buddy of mine all met at Panera today to discuss a few music/business ideas based off of my buddies website (changeupmag.com). We were there for approx. an hour and a half. We spoke on everything from doing college weekend (tours) and integrating our music knowledge into his site. As we were walking out I saw Dennis, who resides close to where I live in MD. I said to my brother and buddy that it was Dennis Chambers and they didn't believe me (both my brother and buddy are drummers...my brother a sick one I might say
http://vimeo.com/6748545) Anyway, so as we walked out he followed behind us. As he was putting his food in his SUV I simply said Dennis and he responded what's up? I then relayed I was a fan and that my people didn't believe who it was. He stated that he had overheard us talking music and was interested in what. We then got to talking a bit about what he was up to and proceeded to have a pretty legit music talk for 10 min with him. I think he was impressed that four, twenty something year old guys hanging in a "money" area could talk real music with him. He told us he had just got off tour with Jeff Berlin in Italy and I proceeded to jump in and talk about our beloved TALKBASS and how there is a thread that believes Berlin should run music (something like that haha). We then discussed a bit of Wooten and my brother chimed in about his book The Music Lesson, of which he purchased for everyone he knew in music including myself (brilliant read). He compared Wooten in a sense to Anthony Jackson and I brought up Jaco's son Felix. We then went on a bit of a bass talk and somehow came back to my brother saying he heard a 17 min jam on an NPR radio show he did with Maceo Parker. He seemed quite impressed on our knowledge and how well versed we were in our music. He then asked if he could show us some pictures one of which was Jaco's twin sons who were about 18 or so in the picture, which he asked me to help identify what year it was from. He also showed up some pics of work he did recently with Stevie Wonder.
Very genuine, real, down to earth, cool guy.
I know there is a thread for talking about meeting bassist that were nice or mean or something like that, however this was a drummer that turned out to be an extremely nice guy.
That's my little rant haha. Great ending to a successful meeting.
