Hello fellow thrashers! I'm assuming you guys are like me and are constantly searching out new and awesome bands, but sometimes it can get difficult branching out and finding them. So my idea for this thread was to try and compile a list of awesome bands to use as a reference for discovering new bands, from a little obscure, to the ones that are straight 3000 feet underground, signed or unsigned, black or death metal, hair or thrash anything goes, even an insane hairy deadly blackened thrash metal band from China, its cool. Heres a few that I've always liked, feel free to add more of the same or different;
Annihilator- schizos(are never alone) *note* First album, Alice In Hell, is one of my favorite thrash albums ever, rest is crap
Accept- Metal HeartCheck out dimmu borgirs cover, great stuff right there
Brocas Helm- Cry of the banshee
Amon Amarth- pursuit of vikings
Arsis- The Face of My innocence
Arthemesia- blade circle
Blotted Science- Synaptic plasticity*note*Alex websters side project for the uninformed
Cacophony- Savage Jason Becker=god
Dark Angel- merciless death
Death- Nothing is Everything OK, i know fairly well known band but to any newcomers to the genre this is a must know band, and Steve Digiorgios bass on this album, this song in particular is amazing, see :50 second mark. Oh yeah, my favorite band.(can you tell?)
Death Angel- Thrown to the Wolves
Decapitated- spheres of madness
Destruction- Bestial invasion
Dissection- Maha Kali/ Nights Blood2 songs, 2very different styles, 1 Awesome band, by far my favorite Black Metal band
Emperor- cosmic keys to my creation and times
Enthroned- the antichrist summons the black flame
God Dethroned- Nocturnal
Gorod- disavow your god
Hellish Crossfire- night of the possesed
Immortal- withstand the fall of time
Impelletteri- 17th century chicken pickin
Imperanon- memories to dust
Iron Maiden- Phantom of the opera*note* yes I said iron maiden but I don't think alot of people know pre-dickinson maiden, and dare i say, number of the beast and on are all awesome, but i actually listen to the self titled and killers album more, classic tracks that aren't nearly as well known.
Kalmah- tordah
Kreator- betrayer/ enemy of god they get 2 just cause they are kreator
Lazarus A.D.- Thou shall not fear
Love Fist- love fist furyYeah I went there
Mercyful Fate/King Diamond- Satans Fall/ Waiting
Metal Church- fake healer
Morbid Angel- The gate/lord of all fever
Necrophagist- only ash remains
Norther- death unlimited
Obscura- the anticosmic overload *note* one of the best bassists in modern metal. period.
Old Mans Child- demons of thorncastle
Racer X- viking kong*note* Paul Gilbert=genius
Ragnarok- stabbed by horns
Sacrifice- turn in your grave
Savatage- midas knight
Stone- no commands
Suffocation- beggining of sorrow
Testament- cotlod/ Alone in th Darkwow, seriously one of the best bands of the 80's decade, and one of the seriously most underrated of all time, the fact that the "big 4" aren't the big 5 with Testament is a complete travesty, if you haven't heard them and are a fan of megadeth, slayer, metallica, and anthrax, you may mess your pants. (IMO, if Testament was to replace Anthrax in the upcoming big 4 show, I wouldn't miss them at all...)
Venom- Black metal Were the first to start yelling about Satan at break neck speeds, even if live they sounded like their instruments were wild animals they were barely keeping under control. Thank them for everything from Slayer to Obscura. Respect
Wintersun- beyond the dark sun the only band to come close to touching the awesomeness of Children of Bodoms style of rockin, shreddin, melodic blackened death metal.
Yngwie fookin Malmsteen- Trilogy sweet opus 5FEEL DA FOORY!

Never heard of a few of this bands either like Lykathea Aflame, that stuff is simply BRILLIANT. Great addition, thanks for the post \m/

Maiden's been covered, but this is their best pre-Bruce track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NumV7gUKLz0
Saxon, a band who should be much bigger than they are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3O3yCoVDuQ
Diamond Head, much more than being covered by 'Tallica: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz3QP1IKTfE
Dumpy's Rusty Nuts, try and not enjoy this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tKO3m_M4dQ
Angel Witch, so much more than that chorus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm6LSTcVL3c
Praying Mantis, a touch more melodic than some contemparies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4x1i66FyoA
Triarchy, once again more melodic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6QwmIXE7yw
Blitzkrieg, should be more famous than just as another 'Tallica cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2SZ7...eature=related
Budgie, around beforehand but fitted in nicely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=as_d9_3NkB0
Def Leppard, got bigger and more mainstream, but started out a bit like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f67A6gF0pJk
And of course, the band who bookend the NWOBHM with Killing Machine at one end and Screaming for Vengeance at the other, the mighty, mighty Priest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jac80JB04NQ

Cyprus- dude, you gotta love that Nuclear Assault video, from that doosher Rikki c***man, to the apocalyptic sing along, and awesome babe-age as icing on the cake. And about Laaz Rockit, before I knew who they were they opened as a special guest at Testaments last show of their tour at the Fillmore in San Francisco, I didn't even know their name till after the show! Thats also where I found out about Lazarus A.D. too, that was a truly epic show!
Edhunter-nice job representin the real classic old-school, Judas Priest was my first true heavy metal concert and I still reflect on it as one of the best, though when I saw them last on their British Steel tour their edge still hadn't dulled a bit. Though it really depresses me to see this... Quote:
From their official site JudasPriest.com:
"After storming the world for nearly 40 years and taking their very special brand of heavy metal to all four corners of the planet, JUDAS PRIEST - one of the most influential heavy metal bands of all time, have announced this will be their final world tour!!
However, the mighty PRIEST will certainly be going out strong as they rock the planet starting in 2011 on the massive EPITAPH tour - hitting all the major cities throughout the world they will be playing the songs that helped make the name JUDAS PRIEST synonymous with heavy metal!
With all guns blazing and amps cranked to eleven, the band will be giving all their fans one last chance to witness the ultimate metal experience that is JUDAS PRIEST!
JUDAS PRIEST will be starting their world tour in Europe.
Stay tuned as we announce more dates - information will be forthcoming soon - so start getting prepared to rock one final time with the incomparable JUDAS PRIEST!!"
| We are coming on a sad for all of heavy metal musicdom when we no longer have our Priest to guide our faith... Though you can bet your sweet @$$ that its gonna be one helluva show and that yours truly is gonna be there!!!!!!!

| | | Oh great, a bunch of metal heads posting a bunch of metal bands to check out...*sigh*...I guess I'm off to the Newbury Comic's used CD section again.
In truth I am literally one of only two metal heads I know, and the other is my brother. Everyone else I know is mostly into classic country or classic rock. So I dont know what is well known by most metal heads at large, but in trying to keep to introducing new stuff ya'll might not have heard of...(Dumpy's Rusty Nuts?!?...how did I not hear of them before, nice one EdHunter) hopefully heres some stuff you might not know but will enjoy.
I aint gonna go into genre too much, I'm old and get confused by too many labels. I hope this thread goes on for a while but from my past BT experience, I think half the metal community here has chimed in already.
Could be Norwegian black metal, could be thrash, could be stoner doom, I'm not real good on the genres but if I like it, I'll post it, I'm just gonna go by alphabetical order. The A's + B's...
Alfa Eridano Akhernar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wmv7JnvoCGg
Anaal Nathrakh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zYSv9IqzEg
Adrenicide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPy1uZ_64fc
Attila http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riUF49y7ke0
(This is one I think you all might know but...)
Austrian Death Machine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llUV6hPuQsU
Baroness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bb3ep6YW0JI
Battlelore (Six albums and every song is about J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth books) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyCMsElyZ5o
Behold The Arctopus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4OrOdgt7nc
Black Cobra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3C_x07XUeM
Blood Duster (I'm not crazy about all their stuff but the stuff I do like is amazing...like this) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNq1fBCdb_E
Blood Tsunami http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmqSI9ncvAU
Blotted Science http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfummR3Uy6I

Hopefully some neat new stuff for everyone, I know I've found some neat new stuff thanks to this thread and I hope to post more and hope more post!

I also hope this lasts also, but with the effort thats already been put in this (its awesome everyones been following the youtube link format, it can get tedious as hell especially with youtube taking down so much unlicensed music, but its great to get a fans perspective of one of their best songs as a first impression) I think even page one is getting pretty epic, what can I say, I guess we are a concentrated/passionate bunch!

Dream Evil - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgzFMPPH340
Sonata Artica - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kObI4XuTR2o
Blind Guardian - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC7iR577OQw
Alestorm - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfYq-7zAQFA
Falconer(One of the best Power Metal Bands out there, BAR NONE) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXGF37OirLI , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoYSwGNGksQ
Star One (Sci fi metal, at it's greatest) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KD0JuJr0a4I
For the less cheeze inclined (Though still less heavy than most of the bands I've recognized so far)
TYR - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5zNK--DUDg
Witchcraft - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_JhuvcqP_Q
Nevermore (Might not be much of an unknown, but hey, I dig them and didn't see them listed.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=majXSmcEgoQ
Those are the bands I can come up with off the top of my head, I might come back and give more, based on what people liked of my lists so far. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
