Metal bass playing!

Hey hey kids huhahahah!

I have recently joined a metal band in my university for a module i have to complete, I have never played metal though and i am not sure how to approach some of the material the guitarists are creating. I like playing funky stuff myself, like good ol' JB or a bit of Jaco u know the stuff. I wanted to maybe add elements of funk, like incubus did or RATM, but I still am finding it hard knowing my place. Any good advice from some metal heads on TB?

just talk to the other guys in the band, (im sure they listen to some metal) get some suggestions of what to listen to and do it.
