Anybody watching it? What a fascinating idea. A metalhead anthroplogist looking at the history of heavy music in general and heavy metal specifically. As a metalhead, I recomend this show to everyone. Those that think they hate heavy metal should take a look at this. Very in depth in the psychology of musics' influence on the human mind. I especially like the opera and classical music (like Vaugner) comparison. Way to go Sam Dunn. |

This is the show on VH1Classic right? That's the one I'm thinking of.

Lot's of new specific interviews with artiists as well as professors and psychologists, etc. I am probably being a bit of a fanboy, but it's very exciting, since Psychology is a passion of mine. |

He visits so many countries where many would think that that heavy metal would not exist, and show's the struggle's of the fans as well as the heavy regulating government's make on heavy metal (as far as arresting young men with long hair and cutting it off). It was such an inspiring sight to see people from all around the middle east converge at Desert Rock festival in Dubai to see all their favourite heavy metal bands. No fighting, just music. So beautiful
I have showed Global Metal to many of my friends who don't like heavy metal, and they have all loved the movie. Some have even gone and bought it after I showed them.
Sam Dunn may be a skinny, red-headed Canadian Metalhead but he is one smart guy, and his work has always been very well put-together. I highly recommend that if you like heavy music, that you check out his previous work

Also cool that now when I get into some stupid argument with someone about a metal based topic, I can honestly say that I have indeed read the book on metal! Also a great resource for finding some great old-school bands that I never heard of before, like Raven, who were apparently a pretty huge deal, but I'd never heard of them before the book.

If you want to go way back, check out a band called Dr. Know. This Island Earth and Wreckage in Flesh are cool. You may have heard Slayer cover Mr. Freeze, but check out the original by Dr. Know.......much more raw.......heavy punk at it's best. |
