A friend of mine turned me on to a jazz trio (drums-bass-Hammond organ) called Casualties of Jazz. On their CD Kind of Black they do Black Sabbath tunes. It's a blast to listen to.

No, I don't think I'm familiar with the Bad Plus. What can you tell us about them?

You know how MM&W made it 'hip' again to have piano-bass-drums?
The Bad Plus is sorta similar...they do some interesting covers, like "Iron Man".
Another group in the same vein is the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey...they're described as 'hipper than MM&W, louder than the Bad Plus".
I don't know about that as I've been spinning MM&W first album(Notes From The Underground) from a couple weeks now...if you're like me & thought MM&W was just an organ trio 'groove/jam/ band, spin this 1st record...at least track 1!

Check these guys out too: http://www.beneventorussoduo.com/ .
No bass player in the duo, but they're touring with Mike Gordon (and Trey) some this summer. When I mixed one of their shows they did some killer Led Zep and Deep Purple tunes.

try a band that mixes metal and latin, in the actual playing styles. they don't just do covers either!

Puya is their name.
