Hi folks
Went to see this doco last night and would highly recommend it to all musicians, even those (like me) who aren't really into the heavy metal genre.
It is a really well put together documentary and quite detailed. I especially liked the way they made a family tree out of all the varying sub-genres.
I went with a friend and we spent about an hour discussing heavy metal music after we came out - a sign of a good doco IMHO.

I liked it because, as a metal fan, it's cool to hear about the history and see the whole family tree of how the subgenres branch out. And to see interviews with Dio, Tony Iommi, Bruce Dickenson, Lemmy, and all those other bands.
But the cool thing is that it appeals to people that don't like metal and, I think, helps them understand why it's fans are so die hard.
Plus the interview with the guys from Mayhem is pure comedy gold.

the interview with Mayhem is pure comedy gold, the segment with Dee Snyder is excellent, the really edgy stuff about Norwegian Death Metal is creepy...

in a nutshell, they concluded that Led Zeppelin were the blue-print for heavy metal, aswell as Black Sabbath.
i agree on Sabbath, but the Zep always seemed more hard rock/blues rock to me than heavy metal.
but the doco pointed that out, and mentioned it was infact the stage presence and offstage antics of Led Zeppelin that made them 'metal'. |

It hits the nail on the head in every aspect about how i feel about metal. I would recommend it to metal and non-metal fans alike. Excellent documentary. |
