This is just an idea I had, and it's gonna be REALLY hard to find musicians who are up to the challenge.
BUT, I baked up this idea last night with a friend. We were thinking, we love metal, we love jam bands.......why not start a metal/jam band? All it would be is a kickass metal band, but we'd incorporate lots of improvised stuff into the mix as well.
I've personally never seen a band like this (with the exception of some minor improv from the late Dimebag during a few concerts), and I think it has a lot of potential.
The same way jam bands will turn a 4 minute song into a 15 minute jam session, we can do the same thing just with heavier music.
If there already exists a band like this, let me know please. If not, what are your thoughts?

| | | Harvyst, out of Kalamazoo, Michigan, I believe. They call themselves, "The world's only industrial metal jam band." From what I've heard, it's pretty cool. |

| | | | Hi, I'm Aaron, I play (fretless) bass in the band Harvyst mentioned above. I just happened across this page and thought I'd pop in. We're currently working on our new album "Lysergency Resolute" which will represent us much better than our demos, but if you listen to "Ergot" on our myspace page (linked in the aforementined above post) you can hear how it's a sort of jam band format even though it's industrial metal. It is challenging sometimes but we're determined to do something new.
By the way, Umphrey's McGee are one of my favorite bands and some of their stuff is pretty much metal jam for sure, like some of the heavier "Jimmy Stewart"s. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
