Last night me and my friend Roon went on a Metal journey. We got out my Encyclopedia of heavy metal and went through the entire book listening to metal bands that we hadnt experienced before, or that we felt were just not well known enough. The result is this list of bands that flew under the radar even to the metal fan. In Alphabetical order for you. Let us know what you think. Never stop Rocking!!

I don't have the energy to go through all that, but am familiar with quite a few of the bands listed and can definitely give my thumbs up to Fates Warning. If you only get one album of theirs I'd suggest Perfect Symmetry.

Not really rare bands, just old ones.
MOst of the bands you listed are pretty well known for the real metal fan.

Yngwie and I are real metal fans, and they are all fairly unknown to us. I have heard of a few of the bands in our list but never listened to them, the majority are knew to me though.

ALso Roon we forgot that Im 19 and your I think you said 17. We are a lot younger than a lot of the TBers. We are DEFINITELY REAL METAL FANS. THe fact that we spent 4 hours yesterday to compile this proves that. These old dude prolly dont know what In Flames, Trivium and Lamb of God are all about. We are the new generation of metalhead man.

A more appropriate title would be "Metal from the 80's". Most, if not all of those, are really old. Still a good list if you're a fan of that kind of sound.

Hmm... The new American sound. I like a lot of it, and I also like Nu-Metal. I dont understand why people are so much against it. These are some hard working bands trying to fly the flag for metal. I think we need to get behind some of them. I really Enjoyed Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake. I like In Flames at least what Ive heard of it. Im not so hot on all this Hardcore, Metalcore, or anythingcore. I dont get why they say core. For example Hatebreed is considered Hardcore, Id call them a metal band. So I dotn get the new subgenres but I like the music. Its not as legendary as Iron Maiden and Dio or Judas Priest, but dont knock it.

Real Metal Fans don't proclaim that they are real metal fans. Therefore, you are most defintely not Real Metal Fans.

I'm not really against Nu-Metal per se. I really hate the fact that everybody feels the need to tune down to sound aggressive and heavy. The guitars have really taken over the bass in the sonic spectrum and the basses have gone the way of guitars in adding overdrive and distortion. It's becoming a jumbled mass of sonic garbage.

Listen to Cowboys from Hell and tell me that's not heavy and aggressive. It's all in the hands.

Having hung around with and spoken to hundreds of metalheads, I can tell you, they do. Metalheads are some of the most arrogant music fans I have ever seen, and they will proudly tell you how much they love metal and how much they dislike genre xyz.

CFH is an awesome tune. Fun to play too. I agree with the whole "downtuning makes it heavier" thing being lame. I mean listen to Celtic Frost, particularly the Morbid Tales era stuff. Most of those tracks are BALLSY and some are only tuned down a half step.

Hes just pulling our chain Roon.

I agree that cowboys from hell is awesome, along with every other song pantera ever did. However did you not notice that Dime was tuning down further and further throughout his career?

I dont think it sounds like garbage. I like Korn and Disturbed and LOVE Slipknot. I dont think a band sucks just becuase they gain mainstream success. I think the downtuning comes from the fact that metal has historically always been trying to top itself. I love the classics too, but this new wave is actually pretty good. It just doesnt sound like 1980 because its 20years later.

Black Sabbath were doing the really low tunings 40 years ago, thats nothing new.

I will say you have diverse tastes, but I loathe a majority of what you put up there. I can't believe you'd put Saint Vitus, Cathedral, or Atomic Bitchwax in the same list as Metal Church! :vomit:

And, what with that Pentagram video? I assumed it would be the good Pentagram, I was fooled! It makes me hesitant to check out any of these bands I haven't heard of. But I randomly picked one: CIRITH UNGOL seems pretty ****in' awesome. I'll have to check out more of there stuff. But there is soooooo much hair metal on that list, I'm afraid to click!
