metronome question

ive been needing to get a new one because my fathers broke.now heres the question whats the difference or perks between my old one that flips back and forth like a pendulum,and the new digital models. they are cheeper but but will not being able to watch the time affect me or will it strengthen my ears.

Metronomes are essential. You need one to keep yourself humble once in awhile. It strengthens your timing. I practice to one at least twice a week. Just bang away with it for an hour or so. It helps.

i know i had one i just dont know the difference in the digital or flip kind.

The 'flip' kind is mechanical and runs (usually) by spring motor. In time, this mechanism can become worn (if you practice as much as you should!) and will 'flip' in uneven time... like a heartbeat, only groovier.

Digital is better, no moving parts. Try to find one (like a Franz) and has a blinking light that will catch your eye.
