In Miami for a night. What to do?

I'm staying at the Best Western Ocean Front on Collins Ave before leaving on a cruise. Looking for suggestions for some good food, good music, shopping etc. Not sure how close we are to the good stuff. Let me know. I have a 14 year old son, who plays bass in tow as well.

Well, luckily, you are close enough to the action.

Just grab a cab and ask the driver to take you to Lincoln Road and Washington - and start walking west. It is the place to go for walks and all kinds of restaurants and shops. Sadly, there is no live music around - maybe a street musician or two.

That day I happen to be playing a few blocks away, at Jazid (www.jazid.net) but we start at 12:30 am, and it is a 21+ bar.

Then there is Ocean Drive, a few blocks away from Lincoln Road, but that's where the chaos is. More restaurants and a colorful walk, though. There are two bars with live music, but mostly Top 40, and all are 21+.

Hey Steve, what cruise line are you going on? I'm planning a cruise for next January-we're both in college, this way we can save up enough money. Our plan is to do the same thing [arrive night before].
