mic and small amp help

Sign in to disble this ad
hey, im looking for a cheapo mic and a small amp for it, for vocals, not to mic an acoustic instrument.

i dont need anything powerful, or super crisp, just something that will be heard over the drums, and a couple practice amps at practice, but i know nothing about mic's or the amps they need, can anybody point me in the right direction?

like, could i get a mic and plug it into my bass amp? heh

An inexpensive mic that terminates into a 1/4" guitar type plug
would probably work (somewhat).

Mics that use a XLR connectors can have a simple line transformer
($20-with a built in 1/4" plug adapter) used for this method too.

But the best thing for you, would be buying a small, used PA system.

yea, somebody else mentioned buying a small PA, but im still not completely sure i know what a PA consists of, because im also looking for the most portable, it wont always be in one spot, im puting a couple bands together, and it would be nice to be able to take the mic and amp with me along with my bass and practice amp,

so super clarity isnt my biggest issue since this is only for practices, not recordings or gigs, and i am in posession of a condensor mic that i run throug my virtual amp for recordings.

A keyboard amp is probably what you're after, Ebay or local second hand shop best places to look. You could probably pick an SM58 up for cheap and then buy a 1/4" jack to female XLR adapter.

Hope that helps.

If your going to buy something, you might look for a used 4 to 12 channel "Powered Mixer",
(microphone mixer w/built in power amp) and a couple 12" or 15" PA speakers.
Trust me, you'll find lots of uses for a small PA system, when you play in a band.

I've seen functioning setups go very cheap on craiglist. ($200)

yea, i paruse craigslist on a daily basis, but when i dont know what im looking for, its kinda useless lol.

why i asked about a small amp and a mic instead of a PA originaly, was because i want something i can take with me while i cary my bass and practice amp, cuz i have no car, lol. but, i just want this stuff for practices in the different bandmates apartments we jam/practice in, we dont go to studios or anything, so all we have space for is a small amp,

i think the keyboard amp was the best suggestion so far heh,

but i will definetly look into what you said also ones i get more space and money to keep it all

Here's another Idea:
A small portable Karaoke machine would be portable,
made for microphones use and cheap on the used market.

Keyboard amps (and bass amps for that matter) are voiced for full range, where as a guitar amp is not to quite the same range.
Some keyboard amps also have more than one channel, making it useful for backing vocals.
