Mic stand - recommendations?

Sign in to disble this ad
I need to buy a mic stand. I prefer tripod, boom.
Any recommendations for good quality/value, or on the other end of things, brands to avoid?
Thanks!

I like tripods for portability, but they aren't the most stable of mic stands. I've had my mic dumped several times when someone bumps the stand, not to mention getting punched in the mouth under the same circumstance.

I like the kind with the weighted disc on the bottom as opposed to the tripod. Other than that, whatever....they get stolen, lost, destroyed in the truck, or thread stripped so often that they are almost disposable gear.

If it's for studio use, or if you have a road crew -- i.e., if you won't ever have to carry it yourself -- there is no better mic stand on the planet then the Latch Lake micKing. Period. End of story.

It's for gigs, no road crew...

Hercules MS401B. Best of both worlds. I have been using mine once a week for a year, no problems yet. They do everything that a boom does without the stability problems and they take up less room. Only problem is I have never seen them in a store - you have to buy online.
