Sad to hear. He was easily one of my favorite sax players, and the Brecker Brothers albums always had the best musicians!

RIP Michael Brecker.

Wow! I remember attending a masterclass he gave at my college and I didn't even know the first thing about saxaphone.

I just heard about this and I am grief stricken. Michael was one of my favorite musicinas ever, period. A true giant. This hurts more than I could have imagined.
I HATE cancer. HATE IT!
Play beautiful for the Lord, Michael, as you always did here on Earth.
Damn ...

RIP, Michael! Never had a chance to check him out live but his energy and creativity came through so well on recordings.

Yeah this sucks. The only times I've ever heard him play was with Jaco, but even from that relatively small exposure I could tell he was an extremely talented musician. Sad news indeed.
I think I'll watch the Shadows & Light DVD tonight.

Oh man. My heart goes out to his family. Michael Brecker was truly one of the greatest tenor saxaphone players of any time. That's a great loss.

peace. A very creative gentleman and a musician extraordinaire. Super session player who played with everybody - rock, jazz, pop.

God bless his family.

We all die, it's what we do with our time here that matters. Michael made his mark for sure.

Strength to anyone else who is living with cancer.

No kidding. When I was in high school, I swear he played sax on every third album a bought.

When I saw Directions in Music (roy hargrove, herbie hancock, michael brecker, terri lyne carrington, scott colley), his unaccompanied solo was the highlight of the night.

Over the years, I saw him play a lot and met him a few times, a true gentleman! He also was is up there with the best jazz musicians the ever graced our planet. One of the best improvisers in jazz, he also was able to play whatever fit the song in a pop context. His solos could conjure up every emotion, anger, sense of humor etc, and always, always beauty! Absolutely one of the greats in music, EVER!
Fly on Michael.......................
