As much as I love spending money on music stuff, I wouldn't do either.....

Your current bass is quite a good bass- definitely an excellent beginner bass, so I'd hold off on another one for at least a year. The car stereo thing is pretty obvious- unless your life is based around your car, you probably don't even need more than a couple hundred bucks will get you.

Actually my car is my life here in Michigan. it beats drinking and doing drugs. and I practically live in it during the summer months.

but the bass I want will come out in 6-8 months so I told my folks to take out $100 each month during the summer then $300 a month during each winter month until it comes out so I will have enough money to buy one. But are laklands worth the cash better then most of the basses out there?

Your parents are buying it for you? Then get neither. You can't appreciate something that you didn't get for yourself.

Bullcrap My wife bought me my Elrick five-string as an anniversary present, and I appreciate it more and more every time I touch it. I appreciate it no less than the ones I've purchased myself.

No I am buying it. I told them to take the cash out of my savings account for this bass. ( they're on the account with me I trust my folks that much).

One good thing about spending a bunch of time saving is it will give you the opportunity to really weigh how much you want that bass. If I were you, I'd start researching and playing everything I could get my hands on now. You'll be in a much better position to buy what you want when you're ready.
