Minneapolis bass shop?

Sign in to disble this ad
Quick question, I'm traveling on business and will be in River Falls WI with a few hours of free time. It is only 30 minutes outside Minneapolis....

If there is a real good bass shop I'd love to check it out. I'm from the NY metro area so your standard GC or Sam Ash probably won't warrant the drive unless they have a great bass department.

Thanks in advance..Pete

There's a nice shop in Wisconsin that has some great stuff - I apologize if it's a million miles away from where you will be. I don't know the area.

Send a PM to TB user IotaNet--He pointed me to a few when i was down there awhile back.

Also, Opaquebass might know of a few too, he's from around that area.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they've closed.
It was in Kaukauna, WI.

Willie's is a great shop. They usually have a good selection of vintage instruments.

Planet Bass

Never been there, but the site looks like a visit might be worthwhile:

As a Minneapolis native, I can recommend Willie's firsthand. I LOVE them.

Willies is the best of those. Groth doesn't have much high end stuff. Encore music and Twin town guitars can be hit or miss on the bass front (mostly miss).

I don't think planet bass has a retail location, they are mail order only IIRC. I might have tried to drive up there a while back. No shop there...

Thanks guys, looks like Willies could be my road trip in the evening and the Brickhouse would be close by, I'll try to hit both.

I was in La Crosse yesterday and didn't bother going into Dave's didn't look like anything interesting.

Dave's is supposed to be good for guitar stuff, but I haven't been. I think there are a couple locations. Willies is pretty awesome. They don't have a huge selection, but it is all quality stuff, a fair amount vintage.

There's a Lakland dealer in Golden Valley, but the name of the shop eludes me right now. Maybe somebody else can jump in with the name and location.

Dave's doesn't have that great of a bass selection, but their guitar selection is incredible.

I travelled to Minneapolis last May. Went to Willies and it was an awesome place! Came back with my American Deluxe J!

Don't bother with either GC there. Both have the worst bass department (if you want to call it that) I've ever seen.

I went to both of the GC's when I was there. The one in Edina had decent people working there, but not much of what I was looking for. The one in Roseville had a bit better selection, but the annoying little sales boy got to be too much--even after I told him that if I need help, I will find you--he still wouldn't leave me alone for 5 minutes. It got pretty annoying trying to give basses a test run when he constantly kept coming up to me and asking if I liked them. My God, can I at least get a chance to plug it in first???

Jim Harms' My Music Store.

The website is http://my-music-store.com/ and you will NEVER meet a nicer staff.
