Does anyone else here love the Misfits? A good friend of mine is a hardcore fan, like REALLY hardcore fan. He's met the band like 3 times, he has a photo with Doyle, and has autographs from I think 3 members of the band, maybe all 4 (including Danzig). It's insane.
Anyway, since I've been hanging out with him a lot lately I started listening to the Misfits a lot more over the last few weeks then I used to. I gotta say, I've always liked their music, but until recently I never really got into them. He's (my friend) been force-feeding me Misfits trivia and playing nothing but their music whenever I'm around, and it's starting to grow on me.
Anyone else here a fan?

I (and I think most Misfit fans would agree with me) believe that Danzig-era stuff is much much better than anything put out by post-Danzig Misfits. P-D Misfists isn't terrible (though some of it is), but Danzig-era stuff is more raw, more menacing, and just more consistently fun and rocking. The playing on newer Misfits albums is a little bit better, but it's punk rock. Who cares about playing?
I haven't heard much Samhain, what I have heard sounded a little bit like the Misfits' Ramones-esque rock with a more blues/metal influence.

There are still things I think are monkey-****ingly awesome. But I'd rather listen to the first 2 Danzig albums.
As a side note, I saw Danzig on his first solo tour and was hugely disappointed he didn't do any Misfits stuff. I thought he sucked because it wasn't the Misfits.

The Misfits are best in small doses, I think. I can only listen to 2 minute songs about zombies eating people for so long before the music gets a little boring. I did enjoy most of the "Famous Monsters" album, personally. "Saturday Night" is a really awesome tune that I think anyone can get into if they hear it.

Oddly enough, she never played any for me, even though i'm into that kind of stuff. Any listening suggestions?

Sometimes his lyrical content can become a little blah, blah, blah (Ya know, The fire and brimstone, demons and darkness kinda stuff) but that's mostly on his solo music. I think The Misfits were a little more fun in their approach.
I was in a Misfits cover band , well I guess it was a punk cover band but mostly Misfits songs, and that was one of the funest bands I've ever played in.

A few months ago Glenn was on Alice Cooper's radio show. Every time I'd heard Glenn talk, he sounded 'big.' As you would imagine Glenn to sound. Talking to Alice he sounded like Patton Oswald talking about comic books, scary movies and playing with action figures. He wasn't using his put on 'tough' voice. Just a dweeby nerd voice.

A cadre of my friends got close to them and the bass player Gerry Onley(?) gave this fellow his bass with the Ax handle headstock. He brought it over to the house and we all checked it out. That's the last I ever saw of it.
Kinda cool.

In fact I read an article about when he had an apearence on Aqua Teen Hunger Force. And they said he was horrible to work with.
First he wanted more money for the appearence
And then he complained about the cartoon drawing of him saying; "I'm way more ripped than that".
Now thats hillarious!! |

| I'm talking about his singing voice. He started getting a big head about it and doing all the operatic stuff. Sort of like when you tell a guitar player he's good then he decides he needs to show off.

I can't find the video anymore, but...
From a site I don't want to link to for "language" reasons. Quote:
Video footage of DANZIG frontman Glenn Danzig engaging in a physical confrontation with NORTH SIDE KINGS singer and frequent SOULFLY collaborator Danny Marianinho following DANZIG's performance in Tuba City, Arizona Saturday night (July 3) has been posted online at AZPunk.com. Also available from: Location#2, Location#3, Location#4.
With regards to the incident, Marianinho posted the following message on the BLABBERMOUTH.NET comment boards: "I would never pick a fight with a black belt, I am not some big, tough guy looking for trouble. I have gotten my fair share of ass-kickings. We have been filming a ton of footage for almost a year now, and had three camera guys at this show to film footage. Tons of tape from the entire day. Danzig freaked the **** out completely way out of life. His site banned my guitarist from making any statements on [the official DANZIG fan site] The7thhouse in regards to their bull**** comment saying I 'used a sharp object.' When the video is posted you will clear as hell that there is nothing in my hands. Maybe he cut his mouth on his 'vampire' teeth! Or maybe is face just opened up? Who cares — I was excited to play that show and was not expecting a fight. I was in mid conversation when he attacked me.
"And for the record — Danzig is NOT a little man. He may be short, but he is in great physical shape. Better than me, and I am at least 12 years younger. He threw me pretty hard and I reacted like anyone on this site would have.
"NORTH SIDE KINGS is not a touring band and really doesn't care about being popular. We are a hardcore band that does not want to tour. We are happy playing a few shows a year. And I wanted to clarify the subject before he put out some bull**** story — which his crew has already made crazy allegations. Still to this time he has not tried to contact me to apologize for being a mental case...
"Once again, I liked DANZIG — otherwise we wouldn't have even been on the show. The guy is out of control. The video shows it all — and it was very uncalled for on his end.
"He caught me off guard when he attacked me — but I caught him with a good jab. That's it in a nutshell.
"The lesson here: respect the bands on your shows cause we are all people. Maybe when he is in Europe he will be more polite to the local bands on his shows. It's a shame this course had to be taken."

When Dan Stone took his video camera to film the North Side Kings' July 3 show in Tuba City, he hadn't counted on capturing heavy-metal history.
The Valley hardcore band didn't get to play because Danzig, the headliner, went on at 10 p.m. instead of the originally scheduled midnight slot -- Danzig's crew even removed an opening band's gear from the stage while the musicians were still tuning up -- and no bands were allowed to play after his set. So NSK lead singer Danny Marianino waited backstage in a line of autograph seekers to confront Danzig.
Stone says, "On the videotape, you see the two men conversing calmly until Danny says, 'We drove six hours to play here.' Then Danzig snaps, shouts, '**** you, mother****er,' and shoves Danny out of camera view." Marianino, a hefty guy, comes back and knocks Danzig to the ground with one ragged but right hook. The metal icon has to be helped up by security, presumably with the words "Mother, tell your children not to walk my way" still ringing in his ears.
When Danzig defenders posted online statements that Marianino had a weapon, Dan Stone posted the video on azpunk.com to exonerate his friend. According to Web site founder Chris Lawson, azpunk.com served 35,000 downloads in the first 24 hours and got 42 million page views during the busiest one-hour time period.
After the incident, sales of the North Side Kings' just-released CD shot up, and NSK's official Web site enjoyed 11,893 hits last week. Danzig, on the other hand, has seen his name slandered on chat boards by every former fan who caught **** for trying to get Misfits albums autographed. But Danzig's official message board will kick off anyone who brings up the subject. No direct comment was made by Danzig, unless you count him telling Pollstar last week that this is his last tour, "at least for the foreseeable future." Muuthaaaaaa!

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Fort Atkinson, WI | | | If I recall the story, Danzig was putting on a show with all these bands...and the show ended up being ended early, for whatever reason. One of the guys in a band that didn't get to play goes to talk to Danzig about it. Anyway, what is shown on the video is the guy going up to Danzig and shaking his hand, and saying something like "hey man, our band didn't get to play." Danzig responds with "go out and play now, man." The guy says "Hey, the lights are all out and everything."
So then, Danzig goes off, and shoves the guy. He responds by bouncing right back with a HUGE swinging right hand to Danzig's face, which knocks him right down.
I wish I could find the video, it was pretty cool.
