Modding a Hohner Blues Harp

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked one up at GC and feel a little like modding it. I have a bluesband I could use a piece or two from, but I'm not sure what to do... recomendations?

You could open up the lower reeds a little. Give yourself easier bends. Just bend them up a tiny bit after taking the top cover off. Not too much. You'll notice the nice open sound though

I was just told by someone that putting my plastic comb from the bluesband in the blues harp would improve tone but I'm not sure... I'm not a genius when it comes to harmonica so can someone explain the difference between combs? And what about the openings on the back of the harmonica? The bluesband has much less space between the comb and covers than the blues harp. How does this effect tone?

I thought I was the only harp playing bassist around LOL
What do you want to "mod" a harp for? I mean its a harp not to oversimplify it or anything but a harp is a harp it has no pick ups or anything. If you need a wider range buy a 20 hole marine band instead of a blues harp. It is a blues harp right?
Now if you want to get some funky sound out of it. its all up to you and or your PA/mike.
I use a Shure "green egg" mike and a bunch of reverb and get some really great sound from my harps.
