I know what helped me with my dry heels, I'd rub vasoline on it at night and put on socks. Also Avon has some pretty good products out too.
As far as hands, when I was a nurse, I used to have to wash my hands constantly, and although they didn't crack, they'd still get dry. constant moisturizing helps.
Try to use mild soap such as Dove, when you wash your hands.
You mention corner of nail beds. Try some cuticle cream. That softens the area around the skin.

I really like Dr. Bronner's stuff, although I try to ignore the kooky religious junk on the containers. Their Sun Dog's Balm is great. I'm a cook, and my hands dry out from washing them so often, but since I gave up on the antibacterial soap (read: lying, unhelpful, makes-the-germs-stronger soap), it's been a lot better.

I do not recommend lotions based on petroleum oils, including mineral oil or vaseline. The reason petroleum-based lotions seem to work so well is the same reason fabric softeners "work": they break down the connective tissue, which gives nice soft results in the short term, but which destroys the material (in this case, your skin) in the long term. I knew a massage therapist, about 60 years old, who had used mineral oil for most of his career; the skin on his hands was almost totally loose from the muscles, you could pull it away like a stretchy glove.
You'll find lots and lots of testimonials for lotions containing petroleum oils, but they are all describing short-term results only. |

It gets used on my hands and face. Before I found this stuff my hands used to get so dry that they would crack open and bleed. Two days of this stuff and my hands were back to normal. www.glysomed.ca

| | Yeah, I've got the moves like Jagger. | | Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: G.R. MI | | | Last year in a thread just like this one, someone suggested taking Flaxseed oil pills to prevent this from happening. That's BS!! But having bought a bunch of Flaxseed oil capsules...... I've started puncturing the ampules and rubbing the oil into my hands rather than swallowing the pills. It stays kinda greasy for longer than I like, but so far this year, I haven't had any issues with cracking. I don't know if it works, or if I've just been lucky so far, but at least I'm getting rid of thee damn pills!

She washes her hands a lot at work and its good to put on after washing
hands and then putting on latex gloves.
It's kinda greasy but its nice.
Apparently it was made for cow udders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bag_Balm

so last night i wake up at 2AM and feel it=fingertips, donk on some moisturizer(gee, looking at it here it sure is some wierd stuff, has HALF A LABEL of ingredients ,oat kernal, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, grape seed extract, apple fruit extract, rasberry extract`bath and body world'?,sounds more like EXTRACT world to me, wife's stuff= ) anyway shlog on some of that then wrap the tips with band-aids,,got thru most of the day but of course having to actually spray some paint at car parts i eventually succumbed to washing my hands in thinner, used a pile of gloves like always,so my middle finger is cracked at the cuticle, well, all i can do is go buy some bottles of what's been mentioned and try em!=thanks again(gee the Corn Huskers and bag balm sounds like something my folks might have used)
i'll play with a pick!,band-aids and a pick that's it
