The money or a good product

I’ve just started a band the music we are going to play will be a mix of things R&B, Smooth Jazz, Classic Rock, with a splash of Country. The meat and potatoes of the genre will be R&B. We have one guitar player a drummer, a singer and me on bass. The drummer wants to keep the band small like it is for the money, where as I want to add another guitar player or keyboardist, to give it a fuller sound. My question is “Do I give in for money, or stay with the sound that’s in my head” The guitarist likes the idea of another guitar player, but is cool if we don’t find one.

P.S I am in no way suggesting that you can not have a good band with just three peaces, and a front person.

Its actually something I suggested today to our band as we have the same format and it just feels a little empty on the guitar solo's.

I would like to see how this turns out

I agree with you btw. I would rather split the money to an extra person and get a good overall sound but the rest of the band are happy as we are.

Depending on the R&B and Smooth Jazz material you pick I think will dictate getting some keys. Personally, I think with those two genres it's a must. I would forgo some extra cash just to have a more versatile band, but that's me. You and your band mates will have to decide on that.

i think it'll pay off in the long run if you add some keys...if you have a better sound, then you will get more gigs

It will be than likely that we will get another guitar player, because Keyboard players are hard to find in this town.
