monster cable warranty/trade-in question

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a Monster brand cable from a guy on TB. Got it and plugged it in, and it does nothing but crackle and pop. No worries--since it's "warrantied forever" I just need to trade it in, right? So how does the warranty work? Can I just go to Guitar Center with the cable and swap even for a brand new one with minimal fuss, even though I have no receipt?

I've had a few monster cables for several years but never had a bad one before, so haven't had to worry with this.

This is a Prolink Performer 500 bass cable, if that matters.

thanks!

Not sure about the 'no receipt' part but that's the theory.

I avoid Monster Cable now that I know about how they sue the pants off of anyone who dares use the generic term "monster" to describe anything.

This is not a company that I want to do business with.

Thanks Dave. I wouldn't buy a new one from them since the pricing makes me laugh, but used-and-on-the-cheap with a "lifetime warranty" is tough to pass up! From my research, if I were buying new I'd go with Bayou cables.

Anyone know for sure how this Monster cable warranty trade-in thing works?

I have successfully done the exchange by mail- I sent them the dead cable, they sent me a new one. A couple of guys on here have said they just walked into GC, handed over the dead one, and the clerk handed them a replacement.

another thing.... it probably wouldn't really matter, but to be on the safe side, don't tell the salesperson that you got it secondhand. if they ask, tell them you got it from that store.

Thanks johnmark for asking this question so I didn't have to.

All hail the SEARCH funciton!

So I was playing a gig this last Friday. We were the opening band of a 3 band bill. The equipment was backlined. Well the 2nd band had to cancel the show due to some health problems with their singer, so they pulled their gear off stage before we played. I get on stage, unmute my amp and give it a test bump to be sure it's working. No sound. I check my monster speaker cable, it's bent at a 90 degree angle, almost broken off. I had to borrow a cheap-o cable from the house. The only conclusion was the 2nd band broke it while taking their gear off stage. Man I was pissed.

ive had to exchange one before, and like you, expected a little bit of hassle.. but the guy held out his hand and asked me how long.. then told a guy closer to the shelf to grab a fresh one. handed it to me and i left. id never been so happy with customer service in my life.

I had a cable that they don't make any more...I got a better cable in the deal. The closest thing to what I had that they make was the next model or two up. I like the warranty. I buy far fewer cables this way.

all the best.
