More Cowbell!

Sign in to disble this ad
Would like to compile a list of recordings wherein cowbell is prominently featured. Need help.

I'll start with the obvious:
- Jumping Jack Flash ~ The Rolling Stones
- Whisky Train ~ Procol Harum
- Mississippi Queen ~ Mountain

Honorable mention, despite the cowbell not being that prominent (except in the SNL skit):
- Don't Fear the Reaper ~ Blue Oyster Cult

I believe that's just the 'rambunctious' bell of a cymbal.

There is cowbell on Taxman.

To me, that always sounded more like a woodblock than a cowbell. Could be wrong tho...

I think you are talking about rock/pop recordings featuring a cowbell. I say this because the 100% of Salsa (and related genres) recordings feature a cowbell. Here's my contribution:

- Cupid's Dead (Extreme)
- I Call Your Name (The Beatles)
- A Hard Day's Night (The Beatles)
- Ladies Room (Kiss - actually, there are many songs in the Criss era Kiss catalog that feature a cowbell. "Love Her All I Can" is another one off the top of my head)

I'll post more later. I'm a big fan of the cowbell (the fat-sounding one that bongo players also play in a Salsa band). But with all the due respect, I haven't heard a cowbell in a rock/pop recording that really moves me. If you want to hear an example of a REAL cowbell, check this video out (cowbell starts at 2:11). BTW, read the video description (that's my other YouTube profile).

This song is fairly cowbell laden, IMO.
