Most accurate tuner for reasonable money?

Sign in to disble this ad
After a jam with a couple of friends, i notice something.

I was the only person to bring a tuner, so shared it out.

My bass sounded sweet , but the two guitards were a mile off .

Now my tuner is quite a ropey £20 boss.

Is this down to a crappy tuner or something else.

What is/are the best/most accurate tuners to get?

Cheers in Advance

A 20 buck/pound Boss tuner is very accurate. Sounds to me like they didn't use it. Other than tuning a piano, or perhaps several various timbre instruments in an orchestra, I cannot imagine why anything more accurate is needed. Now, there may be more convenient tuners, and fancier tuners, but those Boss tuners are more than "accurate enough".
Edit: Now, if they are using (crappy) tremolos, or have jacked up nuts/bridges/saddles/machines, very old or very new strings, or incorrectly strung strings, a good tune may not last past the first chord.

I have been using a cheaper yamaha tuner, YT-150. Works just fine for my bass and acoustic guitar, I think I paid about 35 for it CAD.

For the buget minded i recomend the vibration tuners, i use one for both my EB and UB.
Center Pitch Universal is the one i use around $25-30 bucks, clip on to the headstock
my guitar player loves it also.

Maybe your bass was the only one with good intonation.

Korg CA-30. Accurate and cheap enough to be almost disposable. If one can't tune with this tuner, something is very wrong.

Also, a lot of people aren't good at using a tuner. It does take a bit of 'practice' to do it right. I've been tutoring our lead singer who is now playing rhythm guitar, and using a boss floor pedal tuner has taken some work as has staying in tune, stringing a guitar, stretching and seating strings...all the basics that we might take for granted.

Of course, he's from Africa and grew up without electricity, running water and a number of other things we take for granted.
