Well I know speed would be the least vital part for me - slow sometimes sounds groovier
But all the others should be very important to all of us - perhaps maybe soloing a bit less, but if you know theory well, then you can solo easily

| | | | Most vital part of bass playing I probably missed the boat on this one, but I interpreted speed as consistent tempo, not how fast one can play.Good time is a must for a bass player, you can't groove if your time is all over the place. So if speed meant how fast you are able to play, I blew the question. |

The same for blinding speed and volume of note ability. If you want to play in a band, learn to keep time, play in the pocket, lock with the drummer and how to support the band musically. I mastered this with simple approach note/arpeggio root banging BEFORE moving on to anything else and was in three bands by the end of my first year. To repeat my response to my post in the "What's the nicest thing your drummer ever said to you?" thread:
"It's nice to have a bass player that realizes we are the rhythym section and that he is not the main attraction." |

Why isn't there a choice for 'groove'? I'd pick groove over any amount of slapping/tapping/harmonics/speed/chops. |

Play bass even though you have a long tongue?
Or play with your long tongue?
