it streaming on myspace now and it will be released on the 19th.
so far, im not disappointed. definitely a little more rock than their last few. not half as depressing as the last. justin pierre is singing about an octave lower than normal, and that helps with the rock feel.
its almost a step back from their pop senses as we all knew them. more 90's feeling to me. guitars are fatter, drums are less frenetic. maybe they are just getting old. fairly certain that justin is completely clean this time.
whats really sticking out is the severe lack of annoying moog. i can BARELY hear it in the tracks that it is actually in. MCS used to be ALL about some keyboard. i loved that texture in the music. maybe he picked up a guitar or something.. because hes going to be bored playing this stuff live.
mark hoppus did a good job on the production of this one. its more put together than "even if it kills me" that kinda felt like it dragged on a bit toward the end. this album is REALLY thick. everything is huge with layers.
lyrics are pretty solid so far. a lot of journal entries in vocal form. a lot of swearing.. actually. lots of F bombs in there.. in a lighthearted sense, but its there. he definitely seems to be in a much better mindset. EIIKM was SO sad. almost hard to listen to in places. i can hear him melting down in record. now.. a little more pep in his voice. a little more grit too.
as for the bass, its much more pronounced on this record. a few sections of just bass. of course, its going to get pulled back because they are pop songs, but he's getting his moments on this album. sweet tone as usual (Fender/ampeg/pick).
anyone else? thoughts?
