I knew someone was bound to make a thread about this.

Definitely terrible. What confused me the most was that they had the Funk Brothers make a "guest appearance." I would think that if you could get your hands on the original band that created the songs, you would take advantage of that. Instead, ABC let them play two songs in the background and that was it.

On the plus side I liked the house bass player, whoever he was. He had a pretty sweet Sadowsky, and Ken Smith which I didn't get to hear much of.

Michael McDonald ...

Ouch.

That guy didn't even belong in the room.

Nice prime time gig if you could get it, for somebody.

The Commodores weren't bad, and I thought Smokey
was ok. Lionel Ritchie needs the money.

The Marvin Gaye cover was adequate.

The rest was completely forgettable.

Agreed about What's Going On. That album is my favorite of all time, and hard for anyone to cover. Since Marvin can't do it, he did a pretty good job...a heck of a lot better than Macy Gray.

I liked Gladys Knight.

I was just talking to my mom about it, and I agree with her that the Temptations just weren't the Temptations (and the Tops just weren't the Tops) with the personnel changes.

The house bass player was great.

Motown at 25 was better.
