Moving to new city, how to spread name?

So in about two weeks I'm moving to Denton, TX. I'm going to go to UNT in the fall, and am going to live there with some friends during the summer.

Now, I do know some people that live there already and they do play music. I've been in a band with a few of them before they moved there and really enjoyed it. However, that was about 1 and a half years ago and I've improved a lot since then and changed my style a WHOLE lot.

So, I'd like to know a good way to find new musicians to play with. Denton is a big music town, so it won't be hard. But whats the best way to go about it? How about making sure the people I find are good at what they do?

How about musician classifieds or listings at local music stores. Around here there are musician classifieds on the wall at a couple of music shops.

Find the established jams and go from there.

UNT = University of North Texas, home of one of the/if not the best jazz programs in the country? I thought just going there would be a way to have instant respect in the gigging community.

Musicians classifieds, postings at local shops, and maybe craigs list are the ways that i can think of. When in doubt-go to different places where live music is played and talk to the people who play. I had cards made for ths very thing.

take it easy.
